SOUTHEND United legend Darryl Flahavan has been recalling his memorable stint with the Shrimpers.

Flahavan won back to back promotions during his spell with Blues.

And the shot-stopper told our ‘Have I Got Blues For You’ podcast’ he still remembered his lengthy stint at Roots Hall with great fondness.

“We had a great group who were all about the same age and it really was something special to be part of,” said Flahavan.

“We had back to back promotions, a season in the Championship which I enjoyed and the Man United match as well.

“I remember so many of the games and it was great.”

Flahavan made 351 appearances for Blues and was pleased to be able to prove the critics wrong.

“The majority of my career I had people say I was too small and I wasn’t this or that,” said Flahavan.

“When you look at the big eight foot by eight yard goal and if it doesn’t look filled it’s easy to criticise but I would like to think my performances spoke for themselves.”

However, Flahavan was sad to leave the Shrimpers in 2008.

“I had done eight years and wanted to get to 10,” said the ex shot-stopper.

“But it felt as through the club didn’t really back me and they were pushing me to move on.

“It was never really the same for me after that.”
