LOOKING AHEAD: Canvey Island face a tough task when they return to competitive action at Maldon & Tiptree tomorrow.

The Jammers are top of the Isthmian North, but Danny Heale’s side have prepared for the trip to Park Drive by being involved in two friendlies which have brought a number of positives.

The Gulls overcame a two-goal deficit to draw with Greenwich Borough before beating a lively Dagenham & Redbridge side in midweek.

And Canvey will be looking to pick up three points in their first competitive clash for 14 days.

MANAGER’S VIEW: “Maldon & Tiptree are a big side at this level with their Colchester United connection,” said Heale. “I’ve heard through the grapevine that they have been told they have to get promotion this season, so they have been backed heavily.

“But we feel like we’re in a good place at the moment and we’re coming into the game after a 2-0 win against Bury Town.

“We’ve played two friendly games - against Greenwich Borough and Dagenham & Redbridge - since then and everyone is fighting for their shirt.”

TEAM NEWS: Alex Stephenson and James White remain sidelined with long-term injury lay-offs.
