TAYLOR Moore is convinced Southend United will soon start to work their way up the League One standings - despite Saturday’s setback at Shrewsbury Town.

The Shrimpers were beaten 2-0 by the Shrews in Moore’s first League start since signing on loan from Bristol City.

But the 21-year-old defender believes he has already seen enough to suggest Blues will soon be back on track.

“We play some good football and I’m 100 per cent certain it will soon click into place because of how hard we work,” said Moore.

“Everything is going in the right direction but we just need those results to really push on up the table.”

After Saturday’s setback, the Shrimpers sit 18th in the League One table.

And Moore - who replaced Michael Turner at the heart of the defence against the Shrews - was aggravated to return home empty handed.

“As a group the general feeling is frustration because we came here with one goal and that was to get the three points,” said Moore.

“Coming off two recent bad results we were extra motivated to go and make things right and to lose against a team who weren’t necessarily better than us is frustrating.”

However, Moore felt there were still glimpses of what the Shrimpers are capable of producing.

“We went 1-0 down but that’s football and that happens but we showed character to get back into it after that and create the chances we did,” said the defender.

“It’s all about taking those chances and it could have been 1-1 or 2-1 to us at half-time but it wasn’t to be.”

But Moore - who was one of Blues’ most impressive performers - was still pleased to have been given the opportunity to play.

“I was very pleased to start because it’s been a long pre-season for me,” said the loanee.

“I’m very thankful to be at Southend and I’ve been impressed by everything - the team, the staff, the fans, the facilities and Southend in general so I’ve settled in well.”

And Moore is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

“I want to keep on gaining experience either at centre-back, full-back or defensive midfield,” said Moore.

“I just want to play and when you’re working with an ex-England defender and experienced players like Michael Turner and Jonny White it’s amazing.

“I want to kick on and help the team as much as possible because it’s a very good group. I’m happy here and jumped up and down when I heard it was happening.”
