BOWERS & Pitsea Ladies are set to make their Len Salmon Stadium bow this weekend.

Having played their opening matches of the season away from home, Bowers will play for the first time at the revamped stadium on Sunday.

Bowers will go head-to-head with Ipswich Wanderers in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Cup.

And Bowers will be looking to get back to winning ways having been knocked out of the Essex County Cup last time out.

Southend United Community Ladies were 3-2 winners of the tie, which was played at the Len Forge Centre.

Georgia Fraser claimed a brace of goals, but that was not enough to allow to Bowers to progress.

New signing Jennifer Little, who has joined from Hullbridge Sports Ladies, was handed her debut at the heart of the visitors’ defence.

Holly Moore struck the post moments before Fraser fired Bowers in front from long range in first half stoppage time.

However, three goals in the space of nine second half minutes saw Southend move into a commanding lead.

The hosts’ two goal margin was shortlived as Emma Mackie’s cross into the penalty area deceived the Southend goalkeeper and Fraser was on hand to grab her second goal of the game from close range.

As a result, Bowers had been handed a lifeline, but chances came and went and they were unable to find the equaliser which would have taken the tie to extra-time.

The best chance fell to Danielle Styles, who missed a golden opportunity with the last kick.
