SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell thanked goalkeeper David Stockdale after he completed his loan spell with a clean sheet against Fleetwood Town.

Stockdale shut out Joey Barton's side to help Blues win 1-0 at Roots Hall.

And Powell was pleased to see the shot-stopper end his Shrimpers spell in successful fashion.

“I said thank you to him in front of all of the players because it must have been very tough for him coming in and not knowing anyone’s names” said Powell.

“It’s good for him that we’ve won and got the clean sheet and hopefully he can go back with a renewed confidence feeling good about himself.

“He’s a goalkeeper who I feel should be playing for someone so on behalf of everyone I would like to say thank you.”

Stockdale made three appearances and Blues during Mark Oxley's suspension and enjoyed his spell at Roots Hall.

He tweeted:"Thanks to all at Southend. Had a great couple of weeks with a great group of people that made me feel part of the group. All the best for the rest of the season. Nice three points and a clean sheet to finish."
