BRAD Wellmen labelled Canvey Island’s 1-0 defeat to Great Wakering Rovers tonight as the ‘worst performance I have seen for a long time’.
The Gulls went down 1-0 to the Isthmian North newcomers at the Frost Hire Stadium.
Wellmen led the team with boss Danny Heale abroad, and the Gulls assistant manager admitted Wakering worked harder than the hosts.
“They worked harder than us,” said Wellmen. “That’s our worst performance for a long time. When you are outworked you will not win games.
“We can go through tactics and individual displays but one through 16 it wasn’t good enough.
“You expect that as a bare minimum. The management team sorts the tactics but you expect hard work and commitment from the 11 people on the pitch.
“Individually they worked hard but as a team they have not and that cost us.”
