MEGAN Jiggins admits she is pleased she ended a three-year hiatus from football.

The Billericay Town Ladies defender, who made the move to the AGP Arena from Silver End in the summer, took a break from the sport she loves.

But Jiggins is delighted she returned to the pitch.

Jiggins said: “I stopped playing for about three years but then I went back to Silver End to see if the love for the game was still there.

“I went back at the end of last season and, in the space of two weeks, the bug was back.

“Billericay captain Lindsey Morgan then called me and asked if I would like to come over after the club had just won promotion and I have not looked back.

“From the age of 12 or 13 I have lived and breathed football, so I am really glad to be back on the pitch regularly.”

Billericay have made an impressive start to the season and find themselves second in the FA Women’s National League South East Division One having won all five of their fixtures.

And Kim Coster’s side took their fine form into the Women’s FA Cup as they claimed a thumping win over Colney Heath.

Billericay were 9-1 winners at the AGP Arena, with Jay Blackie and Zoe Rushen bagging a brace of goals each while Morgan, Nicole Farmer, Amy Nash and Danica Dougal were also on target.

Jiggins was also on target as she headed home after 14 minutes.

And Jiggins, who has proved to be an integral part of Billericay’s back three, is pleased to be contributing at both ends of the pitch.

Jiggins added: “We’ve made an amazing start to the season and we go into each game looking to win.

“It’s quite nice for any of us at the back to score.

“We aim for at least one of us to score in each game, but keeping clean sheets is the priority.

“We’ve conceded a few goals and also kept a few clean sheets so far.

“The less goals we concede, the more wins we will get.”

Billericay travel to third-placed Actonians Ladies on Sunday.

And Jiggins insists it is important Billericay maintain their momentum.

The 26-year-old confirmed: “We take it game-by-game and we go into each match with a fresh mind.

“We’re always aiming to get three points and it’s going well so far, but we have to maintain that form.

“Hopefully the wins will keep on coming.”
