BOWERS & Pitsea Ladies turned on the style in their first home match of the season as seven second half goals saw them pick up a thumping Eastern Region Women’s Football League Cup first round win.

Ipswich Wanderers were condemned to a 9-1 defeat by a rampant Bowers side at the Len Salmon Stadium.

And Bowers boss Darren Fraser felt it was a dream start to the club’s home campaign.

Fraser said: “I wasn’t expecting us to pick up such a convincing win.

“I was expecting it to be a much tighter game and they went ahead early on, so I thought the game was going to be end-to-end.

“Once we settled down, we took the game to them and played good football.

“It was nice to see some new players score goals and the game came together nicely for us.

“We used the width of the pitch and put together some good attacking moves.”

Bowers got off to a disappointing start as Ipswich raced into a fourth minute lead but, after the early scare, the hosts went in at the break ahead thanks to goals from Danielle Styles and Emma Mackie.

And Bowers were to score seven goals in the final 23 minutes of the cup tie to book their place in the next round of the competition.

Georgia Fraser fired home after being found by Natalie Strange, while Styles added to her first half strike by finding the back of the net on two more occasions to complete her hat-trick.

Ebony Moore came off the bench to notch a brace while Louise Daly netted her first goal in Bowers colours and Sophie Dowman rounded off the scoring.

And Fraser was pleased to see his side adapt to the Len Salmon Stadium’s new artificial surface despite only enjoying one training session prior to the victory.

Fraser added: “I was hoping to do the first training session on the pitch the week before the match but we only got on there for the first time three days before the game.

“We adapted well and it was a very good win.

“Hopefully we will build on the win when Histon Ladies come to the Len Salmon Stadium on Sunday.”
