THE newly named Westcliff Lionesses have enjoyed a week to remember.

After deciding on their new identity, Westcliff faced Thurrock T Birds before also being coached by England international Emily Scott.

And Westcliff’s Julia Cripps has been delighted by the progress being made.

“It’s been great and everyone is really happy with the new name, especially as it fits in really nicely with the club’s ‘join the pride’ motto,” said Cripps.

“We look forward to using it moving forward and things have been going well on the pitch too.

“The T-Birds match was a great game and they were so helpful.

“They gave the ladies a lot of helpful tips and advice and were so supportive.

“We would all like to thank them for a great day.”

Scott - who played for the T-Birds before joining Saracens - then offered Westcliff’s ladies team more advice along with several other current T-Birds players and coaches.

And Cripps felt the training session was hugely beneficial.

“Emily and the T-Birds did some great training drills,” said Cripps.

“We are looking forward to the new relationship that has been formed with Emily and the T-Birds, and look forward to working with them both in the future.

“We are so happy to be working with Emily.

“She is such a great icon for the game and has offered to come back in the future too.”

And Scott - a former Seevic College student - was pleased to be able help Westcliff’s squad of players.

“It’s great for women’s rugby to see so many here training,” said Scott.

“I wish Westcliff the very best of luck for the season ahead.”
