JAMES Scogings has warned Westcliff not to get complacent as they attempt to secure a fifth successive victory this weekend.

Westcliff sit second in the London & SE Premier Division standings after winning their first four games of the campaign.

But Scogings does not want Westcliff to take winning for granted when they host bottom of the table Shelford tomorrow.

“This weekend we should go in with the same mindset and mentality as we have done with our previous four games this season,” said Scogings.

“We shouldn’t really look at league positions and it’s hard to gauge whether or not Shelford have just had a rocky start like they did last season.

“But games like these shouldn’t be taken lightly otherwise it will be a long day for us on Saturday.”

Westcliff have taken 18 points from their first four games and triumphed 19-13 at Tunbridge Wells last weekend.

The hard-fought win continued Westcliff’s unbeaten start to the season.

And Scogings has been delighted by how well Westcliff have done so far.

“It’s extremely pleasing to see ourselves in the position we are currently in,” said Scogings.

“I think most of the team would have expected a different set of results seeing as the opponents we have faced have either been in the top five or in contention from the previous season so we’ve done well.

“But we have to keep that going and nobody is going to get carried away by four wins.

“We will need to keep working hard to build on this good start.”

And Scogings feels the fine start has been down to Westcliff being able to put together a strong squad.

“I believe the reason for our impressive start has been due to good numbers at pre-season training and the guys all looking to improve on previous years,” said Scogings.

“Also, the return of players from both abroad and university has further improved the cohesion within the squad.”

In contrast to Westcliff, Shelford have yet to win this season and have suffered four successive defeats.

Shelford lost 62-2 against Wimbledon - the only team above Westcliff in the table - last time out.

l Basildon will be looking for their first London Two North East win of the season when they head to Saffron Walden tomorrow.

Basildon, who were promoted from London Three Essex last weekend, have lost three games in a row and face a tough test at second-placed Walden.
