SOUTHEND Saxons will be looking to build on their first win of the season when they head to Old Priorians in London One North tomorrow.

Southend saw off Amersham & Chiltern 29-7 last weekend to end a run of three successive defeats.

And Saxons’ director of rugby Josh Ward is keen to see what impact the win will have on his side.

“There were some really pleasing aspects to the win but we won’t really know how much difference it has made until we get back out there again,” said Ward.

“I would imagine the impact can only have been a positive one and it’s another exciting match for us at the weekend.”

Southend’s win saw them move up to 10th in the standings and Ward is pleased to see things coming together.

“We have a good mix of youth and experience and it’s good to see,” said Ward.

“We brought the likes of Andrew McClintock, Nik Grier and Harry Branch back to the club in the summer to join Chris Vaughan and Todd Bailey and it’s important to have that experience.

“We also have youngsters Tom Ramsey and Jake Totham and it’s vital to have that balance.

“We’re without a few players at the moment but I think Old Priorians are too so you just have to get on with it and there can be no excuses.

“We have two away games in a row to end this block of fixtures and there are 10 points up for grabs.”

Old Priorians head into the game sitting seventh in the table after losing 41-0 at league leaders Colchester last week.
