BOWERS & Pitsea Ladies boss Darren Fraser believes his side are going into the unknown when they face Phoenix Sports in the Isthmian League Cup tonight.

It will be the first time both sides have been involved in the competition.

And Fraser is hoping Bowers can enjoy a memorable Isthmian League Cup first round debut.

The Bowers boss said: “We are having to travel to Bexleyheath for the game tonight.

“Neither team has been in the Isthmian League Cup before, so we are going into the unknown really.

“Midweek games can be difficult for us because some players will be unable to get there due to work commitments.

“But that will give some opportunities to younger players, who will show what they can do.

“Luckily, we have a big squad, so we will be alright in terms of numbers.”

And Bowers will go into the fixture having recorded back-to-back wins.

Bowers followed up their thumping League Cup triumph over Ipswich Wanderers with a 2-0 victory over Histon Ladies.

Sophie Dowman and Danielle Styles were on target in the Eastern Regions Women’s Football League Division One success, which means Bowers have won both clashes played at the Len Salmon Stadium.

And, although Fraser was pleased to see his side come through the clash with all three points, he was disappointed to see a few of his players pick up injuries.

Fraser added: “It was a really good win and we played really well despite a slow start.

“The disappointing thing was that we came away with four players having picked up injuries.

“Histon were a very dirty side and the referee was not great.

“We played some really good football but it’s difficult when you’re playing a team like that.

“Some of my players came off the pitch with stud marks because of tackles and one got elbowed and now has a black eye.

“But our second goal was a cracker and we were pleased to get the win.”

Dowman, Kerri Thomas, Sabrina Campbell and Styles were all denied early on as Bowers looked to grab an early lead.

Styles and Taylor Parrish both saw efforts cleared off the line but the Bowers pressure paid off.

With 32 minutes on the clock, Dowman beat a defender before slotting home.

That was how it remained at the break, but the second half was only 23 seconds old when Bowers doubled their advantage.

Styles, who scored a hat-trick last time out, found the back of the net from long range to kill the game off.
