GRANT Stammers has been appointed the new head coach of the East Essex Sabres.

Stammers has been announced as Kirk Beacham’s successor.

Beacham enjoyed just one season in charge of the British American Football Association South Football Conference Division Two side.

The Sabres, under Beacham’s guidance, finished in fifth place in the six team league and were only able to pick up one win throughout the campaign.

That solitary victory came on the opening day of term as the Sabres overcame Maidstone Pumas, who finished at the foot of the table.

Stammers, who was a member of Beacham’s backroom staff, will be looking for an improvement during his opening season at the helm.

The Sabres are already back in training ahead of the 2019 campaign.

In a bid to get the players back to full fitness, strength and conditioning coaches Rick and Mitchell Waters held a session in their Rayleigh-based gym.

Meanwhile, the Sabres will also be hosting a series of trial sessions.

The first event is set to take place at James Hornsby School, in Laindon, on Sunday, October 7.

The session will last from 11am until 1.30pm.

Anybody over the age of 18 can take part, while coaching roles and game day volunteering positions are also available.
