LOOKING AHEAD: Mark Bentley will be determined to start his reign as Canvey Island manager with three points.

The man who came in to replace Danny Heale last weekend begins against Thurrock rivals Tilbury.

Having faced off against the Dockers as Grays Athletic manager in years past, Bentley knows what to expect.

The new boss is still getting to know his players but will have faith his team can overturn a Tilbury side who have won only once so far this season.

Both were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first stage, meaning both were without a competitive fixture last weekend.

But Tilbury head into the clash having just won their first match of term. Joe Keith, the ex-Canvey assistant manager, and his team won 1-0 at Barking.

Canvey warmed up for the match with a 1-1 draw against a strong Dulwich Hamlet team.

MANAGER’S VIEW: “It was a very good first impression,” said Bentley. “The boys set a good tempo against a good team, especially in the second half. I learned a lot.

“Tilbury’s results have picked up recently and they have made some experienced signings. But my focus is on my team.

“If we approach it right we will come through it.

“I am really excited about it. I tried to stay off the bench on Tuesday but I was down there in the second half and it was good to be back.

“I want to win every game but I know that won’t happen. It is all about results but it’s a long process and lets hope I get that extra 10 per cent having come in.”
