JAKE Spivey insists Westcliff cannot wait for this weekend’s top of the table clash with Wimbledon.

London & SE Premier Division leaders Westcliff have won all five of their matches so far this season.

And Spivey has now set his sights on making it six victories in a row when second-placed Wimbledon visit the Gables tomorrow.

“The boys are just excited to see how far we can go this season,” said Spivey, who scored five tries in last weekend’s 97-7 win against Shelford.

“We know we’re capable of beating anyone and we’re up for the challenge as we know they will be tough opposition.”

But Westcliff will be heading into the contest on a high after surprising even themselves with their unbeaten start to the season.

“The season has been a massive shock to us so far but a good shock,” said Spivey.

“We have proved that we have great depth in the squad and also shown we are very capable of beating any team in this league.

“Five wins from five is a massive achievement.”

Spivey is also enjoying his own part in the success having rejoined Westcliff on loan from Blackheath in the summer.

However, the youngster is having to get used to lining up in a new role on the wing.

“Being on the wing is different and something I’m not used to,” said Spivey.

“People think it’s similar to 15, where I do usually play as well as nine, but it’s completely different.

“I would much rather be in my normal position but as long as the team remain successful it is hard to change a winning team.”

But Spivey caught the eye on the wing last weekend as he scored five tries in Westcliff’s big win against Shelford.

And the youngster felt the victory put down a marker for Westcliff’s rivals.

“Last weekend was a massive statement,” said Spivey.

“Scoring five tries was of course overwhelming and it was good to finally dot down my first of the season.

“I was not expecting to come out of the game with 25 points of my own but some of them were just about being in the right place at the right time.”

And Spivey is keen to build on the good start.

“As a team we want to be as dominating as possible and individually I want to make more of a statement too,” said Spivey.

“I want to show what I have to offer and then go back to Blackheath when the time is right and do what I can to prove myself at that level too.”
