SAM Nash is relishing a return to rugby union with Rochford Hundred.

Nash had been playing the league format of the game with London Skolars.

But he has now swapped codes once again and is enjoying lining up alongside a number of his former Southend Saxons team-mates who are also at Magnolia Road.

“It was a chance to play with some old mates and after a few years away from rugby union I was keen to give it another shot,” said Nash.

“I had kept in contact with (Rochford’s director of rugby) Chris Green so I knew all about what he’s trying to achieve here and I’m pleased to be a part of it.”

And Nash - who was speaking ahead of Rochford’s visit to Sudbury in London One North - has already been impressed by his new surroundings.

“It’s very professionally run with a great coaching staff and a team that is far too good for this league,” said Nash.

“I was also amazed at the home support last weekend.”

Nash was among the try scorers on his debut last Saturday as Rochford beat Diss 69-7 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

“It was a very dominant performance from the team, even with a few front line players rested or injured,” said Nash.

“It was great to get on the scoresheet but I was more happy to just get my first game of union back under my belt.”

Rochford have now won all five of their fixtures so far this season.

But Nash is expecting a tricky test at ninth-placed Sudbury.

“I know this will be our biggest challenge of the season,” said the winger.

“But, at the same time, it’s a great chance to show that we deserve to be on the top of the table.”

However, Nash is not looking beyond this weekend’s clash.

“I want to help the team continue their unbeaten run,” said Nash.

“But I’ve had a long league season so I’m just taking it a game at a time at the moment.”
