WESTCLIFF Lionesses are celebrating their first ever victory.

The newly-formed ladies team dug deep to win 36-0 at Old Dartfordians.

And their head coach Glen Cripps was delighted by the display.

“All the hard work working on the defence put in by the ladies over the past few weeks has paid off with the solid performance they put in,” said Cripps.

“It makes me proud how much the ladies are striving to improve their game.”

Westcliff Lionesses started strongly and could have opened the scoring when Susan Cripps sprinted towards the try line, only to run past it!

However, the visitors did go in front when second row Sarah Milligan forced her way through to score the opening try.

Pamela Davies, Sian Jenkins and Carla Kraken soon also touched down, while captain Kay Edwards scored twice.

And fitness coach Norbertas Radzevicius was also quick to praise the performance.

“All the girls played really well and their defence was a key part as it has been something they lacked in the previous game,” said Radzevicius.

“After weeks of training, working on their defence, the girls have become more confident and put their learning into practice.

“The score clearly reflects their efforts.”

l Westcliff Lionesses train every Monday and Thursday between 7pm and 8.30pm at the Gables and are keen to recruit more players for the team.
