ROCHFORD Hundred made it six wins out of six with a 52-7 triumph at Sudbury.

The victory extended the London One North leaders’ unbeaten start to the season.

And Chris Shields, who was among Rochford’s try scorers, was pleased to see Hundred overcome their hosts and the tricky conditions.

“It turned out to be a good result in the end,” said Shields.

“We had a bit of a sloppy start trying to play too much expansive rugby but we adapted to the wet conditions and kept the ball tight to get a comfortable win in the end.”

The win also kept Rochford a point clear of title rivals Colchester and Shields has been delighted with how things have gone since he opted to return to Magnolia Road in the summer.

“I’m really enjoying being back with Rochford, which was the first club I played rugby for,” said Shields.

“There’s a tight group of mates I play with at Rochford that I’ve known since college which has made the move even better and the start of the season has been enjoyable too.

“We’ve won six out of six but we still feel there is more to come.”

And Shields is hopeful that will result in Rochford securing a second promotion in succession.

“Our target is to win every game of the season and I know no one will be happy unless we achieve this,” said Shields.

“We know we’ve got a few things to work on in training for us to be successful but we all know we have the ability to go the whole way this season.”

All eight of Rochford’s tries came from the forwards at the weekend, with Lewis Brunger the first to touch down.

Moments later, Stuart Whatling also scored a try before Sudbury hit back with a converted try of their own.

Shields then took centre stage with a fine individual try before Rochford ran riot in the second half.

New signing Jodi Allen was the next to score before Adam Ferrier did likewise.

Jamie Douglas then extended Rochford’s lead with two tries in quick succession before Brunger also added his second try of the game.
