SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell has yet to discover the extent of Lewis Gard's knee injury.
The 19-year-old midfielder was stretchered off in the closing stages of Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at Colchester United in the Checkatrade Trophy.
But Powell does not yet know how long Gard will be sidelined for.
"Normally with an injury like that you have to wait for it to settle down," said Powell.
"He’s due in for a scan in the next day or so and we’ll get the results of that.
"But it’s a real shame because he's a good player and he’s a player we like.
"I wanted to give him some minutes on the pitch and it was quite innocuous which often it is with injuries like that.
"But we will just have to wait and see what the scan shows."
