SOUTHEND United defender Harry Lennon is closing in on a return to action.

The centre-back has been out of action since suffering a fractured toe against Doncaster Rovers on the opening day of the season.

But Lennon will be back on the pitch in the next few days and could even be in the Shrimpers’ squad at Gillingham tomorrow.

“There’s a chance Harry Lennon could be in the squad again at Gillingham,” said Powell.

“He’s been training and he’s been looking good.

“We’ve got a few knocks and there’s an outside chance he may have to be at least in the squad.

“He’s done well in training and he’s looking like the good player I know he will be for us at this football club.”

And Lennon is expected to figure for Blues’ under 23 team at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

“Harry’s earmarked for that game anyway,” said Powell.

“It’s a game I’ll watch if he’s playing and we will look to give him 45 minutes or an hour.

“We need to get him on the right path to get back into the first team.”
