SOUTHEND United have agreed a severance package with their former manager Phil Brown.

Brown had been in talks with Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin following his dismissal in January.

But Martin has now confirmed the situation has been resolved.

“Whilst Phil Brown and I had our differences at the time of his departure I am pleased to confirm that we have settled the position very amicably,” said Martin.

“This is an appropriate end as we enjoyed a good relationship during Phil’s time at Southend United.

“The club wishes Phil well in his new position of manager of Swindon Town, a club with a good history and fan base for him to fulfil his next challenge.”

Brown was named Swindon manager in mid-March and praised Martin for his support.

“I had virtually five great years at Southend and really enjoyed my time at the club and living on the coast,” said Brown.

“The chairman was hugely supportive and we enjoyed a very good relationship right up until the time of me moving on.

“Even the discussions at the time of me leaving were conducted in a very fair way.

“I have no regrets whatsoever and I'm pleased we have settled the position reasonably and fairly.

“Ron is ambitious for Southend United and I have no doubt that he will fulfil those plans.

“Southend United will have a great future under the new stadium plans."

Brown - who was in charge of Blues between March 2013 and January 2018 - managed 251 while at Roots Hall and led the club to promotion via the League Two play-offs in 2015.
