C&K Basildon Ladies’ search for their first win of the season goes on after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Ipswich Town Ladies.

The visitors went into the FA Women’s National League Plate second round tie looking to build on a number of fine performances.

But goals from Gemma Abella and Raquel Murray were not enough for C&K Basildon.

Holly Turner and Courtney Clarke tested the home goalkeeper early on, but Ipswich took a 15th minute lead thanks to Zoe Cossey’s long range effort.

Natasha Thomas doubled the hosts’ advantage and the tie was put beyond C&K Basildon as Tony-Anne Wayne grabbed a brace of goals in the final five minutes of the first half.

Murray headed a corner home late on, while Abella’s delicate chip deep into injury time allowed C&K Basildon pull a second goal back. But Ipswich had done enough to advance.
