DARREN Fraser hopes his Bowers & Pitsea Ladies side will have a new goalkeeper at the club before this weekend’s Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One clash with Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies.

Bowers were without a recognised shot-stopper as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Newmarket Town Ladies last time out.

And Fraser is expecting to be able to bring in a new custodian in the coming days.

The Bowers boss said: “We went to Newmarket knowing that I didn’t have a goalkeeper because our first choice goalkeeper broke her foot in the midweek Isthmian League Cup game.

“Our other goalkeeper then pulled out of the squad the day before the match because she kept having fainting fits.

“She is having MRI scans to make sure it is not serious.

“We are hoping to have a new goalkeeper in for this weekend’s game and I have called a couple of local clubs.

Billericay have said we may be able to take one of their goalkeepers on loan because she is 18 and they want her to gain some experience.

“We also have another goalkeeper coming to training tomorrow and we have a goalkeeper coach who will be training a few of our outfield players in case.”

Stand-in custodian Georgia Fraser could do nothing to deny Newmarket taking a 17th minute lead, but Bowers hit back just before the hour mark.

Jennifer Lyttle spotted the home goalkeeper off her line and found the top corner from close to the halfway line.

Bowers were then in the ascendancy and enjoyed a 20 minute spell of pressure with several chances.

But the visitors failed to capitalise and they were made to pay as Newmarket restored their advantage.

Natalie Strange was adjudged to have brought down a Newmarket player and the hosts converted the resulting penalty.

Bowers pushed for a deserved equaliser but they were caught on the counter attack and Newmarket wrapped up all three points by grabbing their third goal.

However, Fraser felt Bowers deserved at least a share of the spoils.

“We didn’t deserve to lose and their manager said we deserved more out of the game,” he added.

“Jennifer scored her first goal for the club and it was a cracker.

“She saw their goalkeeper on the edge of the penalty are and she went for it from the halfway line.

“It was a brilliant goal to get us back on level terms.”
