SOUTHEND United’s impressive on loan defender Taylor Moore feels he is still benefitting from his upbringing in French football.

Moore - who will line-up at centre-back for Blues against Coventry City tomorrow - came through the youth ranks at Lens.

And the 21-year-old is certain that has continued to work to his advantage.

“I think coming through the system at Lens definitely helped me and it’s certainly something a bit different too,” said Moore.

“My family moved to France when I was seven and it was a lifestyle choice by my parents.

“I went to Lens when I was 12 and ended up in the first team when I was 17, which was great.

“It was good to experience French football and it means I’m fluent in two languages now too, but it took me time to adjust back to English football.

“I had to go from a boy to a man but I’m still learning all the time and it’s great to be doing that with Southend now.”

Moore’s impressive form has helped the Shrimpers go five League games unbeaten during a fine run of results which has also seen them keep three clean sheets.

However, Moore is also keen to make an impression at the other end of the field as he strives to score the first senior goal of his career.

“I was joking about scoring a goal in training yesterday actually but I do sense one is close for me now,” said the centre-back.

“I’ve scored at youth level and it would be great to get one in my senior professional career.

“But I would much prefer three points and a clean sheet than getting a goal in a defeat.”

Moore will be hoping for a fourth win in six games when the Shrimpers host Coventry.

However, he knows the Sky Blues will be tough to beat.

“Coventry have been on a good run too so we’re expecting a difficult game but we’re going into it full of confidence,” said Moore.

“We have been shown all the information on them and ways we can look to dominate the game so we’re looking forward to it.

“We have two home games in quick succession and it would be brilliant to pick up more points to move up the table.”
