SOUTHEND United striker Simon Cox has apologised for the red card he received against Coventry City.

Cox was dismissed after being booked twice in quick succession.

And the 31-year-old took to Twitter after the game to say sorry.

Cox tweeted: " Firstly I would like to say sorry for the first red card of my career. I let the players, staff, fans and club down.

"The first challenge I got the ball and the ref gave a throw and the second I felt was minimal contact but the reaction was disgraceful.

"We go again."

Cox will now serve a one match suspension and will miss Tuesday night's clash against Walsall at Roots Hall.
