SOUTHEND Saxons made it three wins in a row with a 34-5 victory against Sudbury at Warners Bridge.

The triumph saw Southend move up to eighth in the London One North standings.

And Saxons’ director of rugby Josh Ward was particularly pleased with the second half display.

“For the second half we had key messages and objectives put in place and to the boys’ credit they acted upon them,” said Ward.

“In the last 20 minutes we were ruthless and executed the plan really well, which was pleasing.

“We have also seen a number of young players step up over recent weeks and Will Cooper did really well on his Saxons debut on Saturday.

“But the most pleasing thing is there is so much more to come from our squad.

“The boys will have a rest next week before a big block to finish 2018, starting at Ruislip.”

Southend led 10-5 at the break thanks to tries from Adam Dobson and Nik Grier.

Saxons had scrum half Harry Branch yellow carded before the break but still impressed in the second half with Tom Day touching down for his first try in Southend’s first team.

Chris Vaughan and Blue Newton then also bagged tries to seal Southend’s win.
