A STUNNING strike from Moses Emmanuel means Billericay Town and Chesterfield will have to meet again in a replay to determine who will reach the second round of the FA Cup.

Laurence Maguire gave the Spireites a first half lead at the Proact Stadium.

But Emmanuel’s long range effort soon after the break means both sides will meet again at the AGP Arena after a 1-1 draw.

Town made a fine start to the match, with Emmanuel’s low drive – following good link-up play between Ross Lafayette and Jake Robinson – forcing Callum Burton into a save at his near post.

But the hosts reacted with two corners of their own and Spireites captain Will Evans saw his header held by Billericay goalkeeper Alan Julian.

Julian also frustrated former Southend United frontman Marc-Antoine Fortune, whose weak header was easily gathered.

However, Julian could do nothing to stop Maguire heading Chesterfield in front on 17 minutes. The central defender’s header was steered into the final corner of the net and Julian was unable to scramble across his goal-line in time.

Jake Howells saw a strike, following a Callum Kennedy corner, blocked by another ex-Southend United striker in Zavon Hines as Town pressed for an equaliser.

And the leveller should have come just a minute before the break as good build-up play saw Joe Kizzi get in behind the home defence. Kizzi’s pass across the face of goal was missed by Lafayette and the golden opportunity went begging.

However, Billericay got back on level terms eight minutes after the break as Emmanuel, who was named the National League South’s player of the month yesterday, neatly turned after being found by Deering and found the top corner of the net with a peach of a strike.

Chesterfield nearly hit back less than 10 minutes later as Julian pushed a shot into the path of Fortune, but the former Premier League striker’s effort was brilliantly blocked by Scott Doe.

Martin Allen’s hosts came close to restoring their lead as the tie ticked into the final 10 minutes.

Jonathan Smith’s low strike, following Jerome Binnom-Williams’ pull-back, was deflected inches wide before Curtis Weston’s curling effort also went just wide moments later.

Julian needed to be at his best to stop substitute Lee Shaw after he had escaped from Doe and neither side could find a late winner.

Billericay Town: Julian, Kizzi, Kennedy, Doe, Hayles (Inman 35), Deering, Emmanuel (O’Hara 70), Waldren, Robinson (Jahraldo-Martin 60), Lafayette, Howells
