SOUTHEND Saxons made it four wins in a row with an emphatic 82-29 triumph at Ruislip.

The victory pushed Southend up to eighth in the London One North standings.

But Saxons’ director of rugby Josh Ward was still not completely satisfied.

“It was mixed emotions for me on Saturday,” said Ward.

“I’m delighted to score 82 points away from home and secure our fourth consecutive bonus point win.

“But at the same time I was disappointed with a few defensive aspects and a few injuries that we’ve got to monitor.”

And Ward was also not happy with how Southend started the game as they found themselves 10-0 behind during a period of play which also saw prop forward Todd Bailey sin binned.

“In the first 10 minutes we got what we deserved,” said Ward.

“We were passive, lacked composure and discipline which saw us go down to 14 men.

“But, after that, the boys flicked the switch and were ruthless.

“Some of our scores were outstanding team tries which we executed really well.”

Southend fought back to lead 40-10 at half-time and went on to score a total of 12 tries.

Ross Stalley, Matt Wagstaff, Adam Dobson and George Wood all touched down twice, while Tom Day, Ian Morrison, Joel Armitage and Tom Ramsey also scored tries to complete a convincing victory.

However, in-form Southend now face a tough run of fixtures, starting at home to second-placed Colchester this weekend.

But Ward is looking forward to seeing his side test themselves against some of the top teams in the division.

“We’ve got four fixtures coming up in this block and that includes the top three starting at home next week against Colchester,” said Ward.

“I’m sure the club will come out in force to get behind the lads.

“But we’ll enjoy this win with full acknowledgement that we’ve got aspects to address and tidy this week.”

Southend also face third-placed North Walsham and leaders Rochford Hundred in the next few weeks.
