SOUTHEND United winger Stephen McLaughlin feels the Shrimpers will be raring to go at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday despite their midweek heroics.

Blues saw off Crawley Town 6-2 after extra-time in the FA Cup first round replay on Tuesday night.

But McLaughlin is adamant playing 120 minutes will not be a problem for Chris Powell’s side.

“I really don’t think it will make a difference,” said the Irishman, who bagged the Shrimpers’ sixth goal of the night.

“I think it’s good for the legs and the lungs because it opens them right up.

“We can recover very well with the staff we have here and we will be raring to go come Saturday.

“Winning like that will mean confidence is high.

“I’m sure everyone will want to be playing and no-one will be saying they’re sore or tight.”

However, McLaughlin did admit Blues should have beaten Crawley without the need for extra-time.

“We definitely made it hard for ourselves,” said McLaughlin.

“We were 2-0 up and in control of the game but we had a lack of concentration again.

“We conceded two goals and it was sloppy from our point of view but we stuck at it.”

The Shrimpers also had chances at the other of the field to clinch victory inside 90 minutes.

And McLaughlin felt Blues showed just how clinical they could be during extra-time.

“We’re creating the chances but we need to be putting them away,” said the 28-year-old.

“Once we do we’ll be more comfortable in games and confidence will be high too, but it will come.

“But we showed in extra-time we are more than capable of taking the chances and we want to keep that going.

“Of course we’re happy enough with the win but we want to be winning in the 90 minutes.”

The Shrimpers were able to brush aside the disappointment of letting slip a two goal lead to dominate extra-time.

And McLaughlin felt Blues’ fitness levels proved key in the additional 30 minutes.

“In extra-time our fitness levels blew them away and we were still able to move the ball around,” said the winger.

“We made them pay for any sloppy play.

“But, after a good win like that, we want to kick on and we want to make sure we get that clean sheet too.”
