SCRUM-HALF Harry Branch is determined to help Southend Saxons maintain their winning run of results - even though it may see him having to keep his moustache!

Branch has been sporting the facial hair since the start of November to raise awareness of male suicide prevention.

But Southend have yet to lose since Branch started growing the moustache.

“This should be my last match with the terrible tash I’ve got right now but if we win at the weekend I think I might have to keep it because it seems to have been lucky,” said Branch.

“I’ve been growing the moustache for male suicide prevention and I’ve raised £200 so far, which I’m pleased about.

“But we’ve also won all the games since I started growing the moustache!”

Southend have triumphed in their last four games to work their way up to eighth in the London One North standings.

However, Colchester sit second in the table with nine wins from 10 games and Branch is fully aware of how tough the game will be tomorrow.

“I imagine the game at the weekend will be a really tough contest for both teams,” said Branch.

“Both of us are on form with our results recently but all the pressure is on Colchester this weekend.

“That’s one of the many perks of being at the top end of the table.”

However, Southend will also be full of confidence heading into the game due to their recent results.

And Branch - who returned to the club from Westcliff in the summer - is pleased with the progress being made.

“The morale throughout the whole squad is fantastic,” said Branch.

“We’ve all really come together and worked hard to get the results we all know that we are capable of. It was great to really show a more ruthless side to our game last weekend and I’m looking to carry that through into this weekend’s clash against Colchester.

“Everyone within the squad is very excited to be coming up against them too.

“I would definitely recommend people to come and watch this weekend as it should be a great game.”

When Colchester last visited Warners Bridge, in October 2016, an incident involving a touch-judge resulted in Southend suffering a 10 point deduction.

But Branch insists that is now old news.

“It’s water under the Warners Bridge now,” he added.
