AFC Wimbledon winger Mitchell Pinnock came back to haunt Southend United at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.

The Shrimpers were gifted the lead early on following an own goal from Liam Trotter.

But an own goal from Stephen Hendrie brought Dons back level before ex Blues winger Pinnock secured the hosts a 2-1 victory as they secured their first League win since September.

Blues boss Chris Powell made three changes to his starting line-up – with Harry Bunn and Stephen McLaughlin – who both scored against Crawley Town on Tuesday night – among those dropping down onto the bench.

Powell also swapped to a 5-3-2 formation and kept faith with striker Theo Robinson who had endured a difficult evening at Crawley.

Robinson also made that matter after just three minutes when his effort from a narrow angle was parried to safety by Dons goalkeeper Joe McDonnell.

In reply, Pinnock – who came through the youth ranks at Roots Hall - fired over from 20 yards after being teed up by Kweis Appiah.

But, after surviving the slight scare, Blues broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Hendrie’s left wing cross was diverted into his own net by Dons midfielder Liam Trotter whose could only look on in horror as the ball flew into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

However, as an uneventful first half headed into stoppage time, the Dons drew back when Scott Wagstaff’s left wing cross drifted Harry Kyprianou and was inadvertently headed into his own goal by Hendre.

At the start of the second half, Blues wasted a good chance to regain the lead when Robinson delayed shooting when played in by Dru Yearwood and eventually saw his effort smothered.

In a bid to improve his side’s display, Shrimpers boss Chris Powell made a double change on the hour mark with Shawn McCoulsky and Harry Bunn both entering the action.

However, the alterations did not have the desired effect and, with 70 minutes on the clock, the Dons went 2-1 in front when a right wing cross from Pinnock evaded everyone in the penalty area and nestled in the left hand side of the net.

Dons came close to making it 3-1 when another ex Shrimper Joe Pigott, fired against the left post from close range before having another effort cleared off the line.

But Blues - who finished the game with 10 men following an injury to Harry Kyprianou - were unable to make the most of the let offs as they slumped to a fourth League defeat in succession.
