SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell is unsure of the injury suffered by Jason Demetriou in Tuesday night's 2-0 win against Scunthorpe United.

Demetriou limped off after just 15 minutes with what is believed to be a knee problem.

But Powell - who has been hit by a number of injuries to his Blues squad this season - does not know the seriousness of the setback.

"I don’t know what Jason’s done," said Powell.

"Me and you are having daily injury bulletins but it makes it difficult.

"The injury list is frightening and I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years in football.

"It’s just beyond me.

"We can’t blame training or anything like that and we just have to get on with it."

Ben Coker, Tom Hopper, Sam Barratt, Lewis Gard and Harry Kyprianou have all been ruled out for the rest of the season while Harry Lennon is out until the New Year with a broken leg.

Rob Kiernan, who last played in August 2017, is also still sidelined.
