SOUTHEND United right-back Jason Demetriou is facing up to two months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Demetriou limped off after just 15 minutes against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.

And Blues boss Chris Powell confirmed the defender will now have to undergo surgery.

“Jason Demetriou will have an op on Monday,” said Powell.

“He will be out for six to eight weeks.”

Demetriou’s injury will hand Elvis Bwomono an extended run in the side.

And Powell is confident the youngster will make the most of his opportunity.

“Elvis will have to step up,” said Powell.

“I’ll always have full trust in him and he’s only going to get better.

“He will have a run now and I thought he acquitted himself well again today.

“Hopefully he will play his part in us winning matches.”
