FORMER Bowers & Pitsea winger Correy Davidson hit the winner as Basildon United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Coggeshall Town.

The Bees were looking to get back to winning ways, but they were unable to find a way past the Isthmian North high-flyers.

And joint-manager Michael Walther admitted his side struggled to create clear-cut opportunities at the Ho Ho Stadium.

Walther said: “I think we started off a bit slow, but we still didn’t concede any opportunities.

“We didn’t create any clear-cut chances and then they scored a goal out of nothing.

“In the second half, we had to push on and come out more.

“I think we did well and created chances after the break, but they were still not clear-cut.

“The ball would not drop for us and they walked away with the three points.”

The winner came just after the half hour mark as Davidson raced onto a Sam Bantick through ball before looping his effort home.
