SOUTHEND United right-back Jason Demetriou has undergone surgery on his knee injury.

The defender picked up the problem during Blues’ 2-0 win against Scunthorpe United last Tuesday.

But Blues boss Chris Powell confirmed the operation, which took place on Monday, had been a success.

“The operation went well and we’re really pleased,” said Powell.

“It’s about recovery for Jason now and hopefully we will get him back in late January.

“He will have to take his time and then hopefully he will come back fighting fit.”

Demetriou’s injury has handed Elvis Bwomono an opportunity to enjoy a regular role in the side.

And Powell is sure the youngster will be a success.

“I have every confidence in Elvis,” he added.
