JAMES Scogings insists Westcliff are not starting to dream of promotion, despite their stunning start to the London & SE Premier Division season.

Westcliff - who head to Chingford tomorrow - are currently second in the standings after winning nine of their first 12 games.

But Scogings says Westcliff will not be getting carried away.

“I think I share the same hopes as most people at the club do which is to continue the good form we are currently in and to take it week by week,” said Scogings.

“I guess there are some thoughts about promotion but ideally we need to concentrate on this season before we start dreaming about possibly playing in National Two.”

However, Westcliff’s current form sees them sitting just two points behind table-topping Wimbledon.

And Scogings is delighted with how things have been going so far.

“Our season has been going as well as it possibly could,” said Scogings.

“We may have had a few games which haven’t gone our way.

“But we have always bounced back the week after and done ourselves justice, which has been really encouraging.”

Westcliff finished sixth last season but Scogings is not surprised to be higher up the table this time around.

“I don’t think there are any surprises to be had regarding the position we are currently in,” said Scogings.

“From previous seasons we have shown to be constantly improving our position each year and with that brings more confidence to the squad and to what we can achieve.”

Westcliff saw off CS Stags 1863 last weekend but Scogings is taking nothing for granted against Chingford, despite them being 13th in the table.

“It will be interesting to see how they have improved because it has been many years since I have played them but of course it will be tough,” said Scogings.

“But the expectation is they will be riding high on their previous two wins and we can’t anticipate it will be an easy game, especially with our performance with Bedford.

“We can’t take these games for granted.”

But Scogings feels things are definitely on the up at Westcliff.

“We have a lot going on and it’s great,” said Scogings.

“The new clubhouse is nearing completion and should be ready for next season, along with the fact that we have a solid squad of players who enjoy the type of game we play with addition to the youth who are coming through.”
