ECHOSPORT talks to Portsmouth fan Casey Ogden ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth are currently four points clear at the top of the League One table so, without stating the obvious, you must be delighted with how things are going?

“It’s been really pleasing. I think we’ve surpassed fans’ expectations in being top and opening a large gap from the play-offs too.”

Was this kind of form expected from Portsmouth and what were the hopes before the season got underway?

“Promotion was always the main goal.

“But it was more expected to be in and around the play-offs with a small chance of automatic promotion.”

So what have been the main reasons for Portsmouth’s fine form so far?

“The main reason for our success has been the partnership between Matt Clarke and Jack Whatmough at the back.

“They are two very young centre-backs but both look like they could be playing in a higher division.

“This is coupled with Craig MacGillivray, who offers steady hands in goal.”

What are the hopes for the rest of the season?

“I think we’d like to see us continue to battle for top spot with Sunderland, who are largely the favourites to win the division given their budget.”

Who would you say is Portsmouth’s dangerman?

“Ronan Curtis. The Irish winger has been electric since joining this summer and has the ability to cause damage from anywhere on the pitch.”

What’s the Portsmouth team news for tomorrow?

“Tom Naylor is rumoured to be fit again and that would see us back to full strength.”

Who is likely to start?

“I would expect to see the same team as the one that played last week at Rochdale, with the exception of Naylor maybe replacing Ben Close.”
