DRU Yearwood is determined to bounce back from his first dip in form when Southend United host Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

The 18-year-old has been below par in Blues’ last few outings and has been on the bench for the last two League games.

But the midfielder is desperate to impress this weekend as the Shrimpers also look to end their own bad run of form.

“I know I’ve had a dip in form and it’s the first time it’s really happened to me so it’s been difficult to deal with,” said the youngster.

“I’m still learning all the time and this has been something new to deal with but Saturday is a chance to show what I can do if I’m selected and I want to make sure that happens.”

Yearwood was initially forced out of the team with a hip problem sustained against Blackpool in mid-November.

But the teenager is now back to full fitness.

“I’m feeling good after being on the bench and the injury isn’t a problem for me anymore,” said Yearwood.

“Obviously injuries have hindered me a bit this season and I missed a few games at the start with a hamstring injury.

“But hopefully I can go on a run now and help the team pick up the results and points we need.”

If Yearwood does regain top form then he is likely to again be linked with a number of teams in the Championship and Premier League.

The youngster was watched by QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand during Blues’ 4-2 defeat to Barnsley in the second round of the FA Cup.

But Yearwood will not be affected by any transfer speculation.

“That doesn’t get to me at all,” said the midfielder who came through the youth ranks at Roots Hall.

“I just focus on the next game.”

Blues’ next game is against Accrington on Saturday.

And Yearwood is desperate to help the Shrimpers get back to winning ways after seeing Chris Powell’s side suffer five defeats in their last six League games.

“Accrington will be tough and they will come here wanting three points but we have to make sure we want them more,” said Yearwood.

“We definitely need a win.”
