A SOUTHEND United fan has started a petition to get the Shrimpers' FA Cup clash with Barnsley replayed.

Blues boss Chris Powell confirmed earlier today that the club had received an email confirming that what would have been a late equaliser from Michael Turner had incorrectly been ruled out for offside.

And Shrimpers fan Rhyan Murfitt has therefore opted to start an online petition - for the attention of the UK Government an Parliament - ordering the two teams to play their tie again.

Writing on the petition, Murfitt said: "Southend played Barnsley at Roots Hall on the 01/12/18 and unfortunately lost 4-2. But this outcome could have been a lot different if the goal by Michael Turner that was disallowed for being “offside” had stood.

"Two weeks later we have an apology by the FA so the wrong decision as made !

"If anyone else was to do their job incorrectly or make a mistake they would get either a caution for improvement, fined or even lead to dismissal "Everyone help to vote towards this as it could have been very different."

Blues were eventually beaten 4-2 by the Tykes who will now visit Premier League side Burnley in the third round.
