SIMON Cox is determined to end a frustrating few weeks when Southend United host Accrington Stanley tomorrow.

Blues head into the clash having been beaten five times in their last six League One outings.

But Cox - who has gone four games without a goal - is keen to get back on track at Roots Hall this weekend.

“It’s been a frustrating time for us but we’ve got to make sure it’s different on Saturday because a win would really set us up nicely for the Christmas period,” said Cox.

“The last few games haven’t been good and we haven’t deserved to get anything from them if we’re being honest about it.

“But we have a run of games coming up where at the start of the season we would have fancied ourselves to get a substantial number of points from so we want to go and make sure that happens now.”

And Cox - who is Blues’ top scorer with eight goals this season - is keen to help make that happen by getting back on the scoresheet.

The striker has been short of support and service in a lone attacking role in his last few outings.

But Cox will do whatever it takes to help the team.

“It’s a new role which has been put on me but if that’s what I need to do for the team then so be it,” said the forward.

“Sometimes the ball will be played up to me and it’s going to take something very special for it to stay in that area of the pitch, especially if it’s in the air.

“But that’s football and we all have to dig in.”

And Cox will not use the Shrimpers’ injury list as an excuse for failure.

“The injuries and the type of injuries they are have hit us hard but we can’t keep blaming them,” said Cox.

“That’s what you have a squad for and we just have to take it on the chin.”
