Brinn Bevan is on the shortlist to compete for Great Britain at the Gymnastics World Cup.

The event - which is being held at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena - take place in March.

And Bevan is pleased to be pushing for a place.

“I am super excited to be getting back out there again with that GB flag on and repping the lion on my heart and on my chest, especially in front of a British home crowd,” said Bevan.

“It was an unreal experience to witness it in London 2012 and I got to experience it first-hand as a competitor in 2017 for the World Cup.

“Being in Birmingham this time, I hope it brings even more interest and love for the sport of gymnastics.

“I’m hoping to see a massive home crowd there and know all the GB gymnasts will be doing everything they can to put on a great performance against the world’s best.”

Vying for selection alongside Bevan - a former Deanes School pupil - is Commonwealth champion and Olympic silver medallist Nile Wilson and 2017 British all-around champion and Birmingham local Joe Fraser.

But Bevan, who trains at South Essex Gymnastics Club in Basildon, has had a strong year in which he became all-around British champion in March before competing as part of the GB team at the World Championships in Qatar.

Bevan will be hoping that will be enough to secure his place in the men’s competition, where Great Britain will face gymnasts from Russia, China, Japan, USA, Brazil, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The women’s event will see Great Britain competing against the USA, Russia, China, Canada, Brazil, Japan, France and Germany.

Unlike the 2018 Gymnastics World Cup, 2019’s edition focuses all the action over the course of one Saturday.

The men’s competition gets underway at 1pm on March 23 and concludes at 4.05pm with the women’s events following on at 6.30pm and finishing at 9.15pm.

However, Bevan’s team-mate - double Olympic champion Max Whitlock - will not be featuring.
