SOUTHEND United youngster Dan Humphreys has been disciplined by the club after being involved in a bizarre brawl while on loan at Aveley.
Humphreys was sent off in the 63rd minute of Aveley’s 3-0 defeat against Tilbury after being adjudged to have headbutted Kris Newby.
But, after Tilbury made it 2-0 in the 75th minute, Humphreys – who was now watching the game from the sidelines – ran onto the pitch to confront goalscorer Lewis Smith and his team-mates.
An eye-witness at the game said: “Unfortunately, as Tilbury celebrated, two people climbed the barriers, entered the pitch and allegedly aimed punches and kicks at the Tilbury striker.
“This, unsurprisingly, caused a reaction from the teams and an unsightly melee developed causing a delay in restarting the game.”
The incident resulted in 12 minutes of added on time and Blues are now waiting to discover if Humphreys will face any further punishment.
Humphreys has been with the Shrimpers since the age of nine and has not previously had to be disciplined by the club.
