SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell is hopeful of adding to his squad before Saturdays clash with Plymouth Argyle.
Powell is currently short of options after the Shrimpers were hit by a succession of injuries.
And the Blues boss is close to boosting his numbers.
“I’m hopeful we can get a player over the line in time for Saturday’s game,” said Powell.
“We need to add to the squad in certain areas and I’m hoping to address one area by the weekend.
“It’s a loan but position wise I don’t think I should say just yet.”
Echosport understands the first loan signing will be a defender on the books of a Championship club.
But Blues are also in talks with a striker.
