SOUTHEND United striker Simon Cox is happy to have already matched his goalscoring tally from the whole of last season, but the Shrimpers forward is still hungry for more.

Cox bagged his 10th goal of the campaign when netting a late penalty in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Roots Hall.

However, the 31-year-old is determined to keep on hitting the back of the net.

“It’s nice to have already matched my tally from last season but I still want a significant number of goals between now and the end of the season,” said Cox.

“In an ideal world I would have reached double figures before the turn of the year but I’m there now which is good.

“I’m pleased with how things have been going for myself in terms of goals and assists but I want to make sure there are still many more to come because that’s why I’m in the team.”

Cox sent his spot-kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

But it was not enough to stop the Shrimpers suffering a disappointing defeat against the struggling Pilgrims.

“Saturday was a very disappointing result,” said Cox.

“I thought we started the second half well but then conceded a sloppy goal and it gave us a mountain to climb.

“We got a couple of late goals but that probably made the scoreline flattering to us if we’re honest about it.”

And Cox is now eager to bounce back at Bradford City on Saturday.

“We’ve watched clips from the Plymouth game and the manager has quite rightly said a few things but we move on to Bradford now,” said Cox.

“We’ll work on a plan for that game and we’ll be doing all we can to get a result there because we want to be doing better.”
