SOUTHEND Saxons skipper Ian Morrison is eager for his side to get back to their best this weekend.
Saxons have started 2019 with back to back defeats.
And Morrison is keen for Southend to produced an improved performance when they host Old Priorians on Saturday.
“As a group we have high internal standards and the start of 2019 has fallen below them,” said Morrison.
“More than anything we are striving to get the performance right and then we know the result will follow.”
Southend were beaten 18-10 at Amersham & Chiltern last weekend and Morrison remains disappointed with the defeat.
“It was extremely frustrating as from the overall play we had superior possession and territory,” said Morrison.
“But we were a little lacking in the final application of our skill set.”
As a result, Southend remain ninth in the London One North standings.
And Morrison is desperate to return to winning ways against Old Priorians, who sit two places above Saxons in the standings.
“They have some very good direct runners from open play, so our defence is going to have to be solid to counter that,” said Morrison.
“Ultimately though we are focusing on ourselves and what we need to do to get the performance and the win we need.”
