JAMES Scogings has urged in-form Westcliff to take nothing for granted against bottom of the table Shelford this weekend.

Westcliff head into Saturday’s clash having won their last three outings in the London & SE Premier Division.

But Scogings insists Westcliff will still need to be at their best to keep the winning run of results going.

“We can’t take games like these for granted,” said Scogings.

“As it’s been seen when we have played teams in the bottom half of the table we don’t get the results people usually expect and complacency in these areas needs to be addressed.”

However, Westcliff will be heading into the game on a high after beating Tunbridge Wells 30-10 last time out.

And Scogings was pleased with the win.

“It was an aggressive battle for the forward pack at the weekend,” said Scogings.

“You could tell that Tunbridge wanted to prove a point and come away with the win after their previous loss to us earlier in the season.

“However, the guys stuck with the game plan and in turn resulted in another bonus point win to keep us in contention with promotion.”

Westcliff are now just four points behind table-topping Wimbledon.

And Scogings is delighted Westcliff have been able to keep on impressing after the Christmas break.

“It’s been a great start to the new year,” said Scogings.

“Picking up where we have left off and continuing with the form we are currently in should reward us with more positive performances and results going into the latter part of the season.

“Also with news of players returning from injury and new, promising players working through the ranks it will only strengthen the squad throughout.”

But Scogings is still hungry for more.

“It’s a high priority that we go into this weekend’s game with the mentality that we need to carry on this streak of good performances to maintain our position in the league,” said Scogings.

“The mid-table teams have only a few points between them so to capitalise on this weekend’s opportunity will help aid us greatly.”
