SAM Hart wants his loan spell at Southend United to kick start his career.

The left-back signed an extended deal with his parent club Blackburn Rovers yesterday.

But the 22-year-old - who is now contracted to the Championship club until 2020 - is still eager to prove his worth with Blues.

“I want to get as many games as I can and I want to help the team as much as possible too,”said Hart.

“I’ve spoken to the manager at Blackburn (Tony Mowbray) and he thought coming to Southend would be a really good experience for me.

“I was really keen to sign because playing games in League One will help me to improve but I want us to get as many points as we can.

“Saturday’s game at Bradford was the best possible way to start and hopefully we can keep doing well now.”

Blues beat the Bantams 4-0 at Valley Parade, with Hart lining up at left wing back.

And the defender is looking forward to working with Blues boss Chris Powell who lined up at left-back in his own playing career.

“The fact the manager here was a left-back himself and had a really good career himself is great for me,” said Hart.

“I’m sure I’ll learn a lot but the main thing is getting games and points.

“That’s what I’m coming here to do.”

The Shrimpers’ next opportunity to impress comes against second placed Luton Town at Roots Hall on Saturday.

But Hart feels Blues will be heading into the contest on a high.

“Luton have been picking up points and positive results but we’ll have a positive mindset too after the win at Bradford,” said the left-back.

“We know it will be a hard game because all games in this League are but we want to build on Saturday’s victory.”

Fellow new boy Stephen Humphrys again looks set to play a key part after scoring twice on his debut.

But Hart already knew all about the striker’s quality.

“I was at Rochdale with Stephen so I knew he had that in his locker,” said Hart.

“It was a great debut and although he’s set himself a high standard now he will be fine.”
