SOUTHEND United striker Simon Cox is keen for the Shrimpers to prove their worth against high-flying Luton Town tomorrow.

Blues have yet to pick up a point from the top seven teams in League One so far this season.

And Cox is keen for that to end this weekend.

“We’re looking forward to this game, especially with it coming off the back of the really good win we had at Bradford,” said the forward.

“We know Luton are a good team and when we played against them earlier on this season we weren’t at our best.

“It was a frustrating night, especially as we had a good following of fans there.

“But we’ve got another chance now and it will be another good game in front of a good crowd so we want to show what we can do.

“We feel as though we can beat anyone at this level, no matter where they are in the League and we want to prove that on Saturday.”

However, Cox knows Luton will be tough to beat.

The Hatters are currently second in the standings and have not been beaten in the League since losing 3-2 at Barnsley back in October.

But Cox is eager to end Luton’s 15 match unbeaten streak this weekend as he again looks set to line-up alongside Stephen Humphrys in attack.

Humphrys scored twice on his Blues debut in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Bradford City in a clash with saw Cox bag his 11th goal of the season.

And the striker is now keen to secure more of the same against Luton.

“It was a good win and a good performance against Bradford and we want to maintain that level now,” said Cox.

“We won’t get carried away by one game but it means we’re on a high going into Saturday and we want to make it back-to-back wins because we haven’t done that for a while.”

Blues will again be without Harry Bunn this weekend as the winger remains sidelined by the hamstring injury he picked up against Plymouth Argyle earlier this month.

Tom Hopper, Rob Kiernan, Jason Demetriou, Sam Barratt, Harry Lennon and Harry Kyprianou are also still out of action, along with goalkeeper Mark Oxley who Powell has no idea when he will be fit enough to return to action between the sticks.
