LUKE Hyam and Stephen Hendrie have added to Southend United’s injury concerns.

Midfielder Hyam, who had impressed in Blues’ 4-0 win at Bradford City, missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bradford City with a hamstring problem while Hendrie was unavailable with an abdominal problem.

And Blues boss Chris Powell is unsure when they duo will be back in action.

“Luke has a slight hamstring injury,” confirmed Powell.

“He’s tweaked it during training and it’s similar to the one Taylor Moore had the other week when we played Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“Stephen Hendrie has been playing with a bit of abdominal pain for quite a while.

“He missed out this week and I don’t know if they will be back for the next game.”

With Mark Oxley, Ben Coker, Rob Kiernan, Jason Demetriou, Tom Hopper, Sam Barratt, Harry Lennon, Harry Bunn, Harry Kyprianou and Lewis Gard also out action, Powell was missing 12 players at the weekend.

But the Blues boss is hopeful some of them will soon be back in action.

“Jason Demetriou and Harry Lennon are training and hopefully Harry Bunn will be again this week so that will make us stronger,” said Powell.

“It would be good to get them back.”

And Powell is still also looking to make another signing before the transfer window closes later this week.

“The window closes in a few days so hopefully we can get one or two things done because we need it,” added the Shrimpers chief.
