SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell is relishing going head to head with Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan at Roots Hall tomorrow.

Powell worked alongside Coughlan when gaining his coaching qualifications.

And the Blues boss is looking forward to seeing the Irishman again on Saturday.

“I know Graham well so it will be good to see him,” said Powell.

“We did one of our coaching badges together and I got to know him then.

“We’ve kept in contact over the years and I’ve always got on well with him.

“I know he’s well liked from his time here but he’s at Bristol Rovers now.

“He was caretaker to start with and they responded to him.

“Of course you quickly learn about yourself when you get the job permanently and things are going well or not going well but they’ve picked up points.

“It’s not got them away from where they don’t want to be just yet but if they keep on picking up points and perform like they did against Peterborough in the week it bodes well.

“I wish Graham well but we both have a job to do this weekend.”

Rovers have taken nine points from their last six games but remain second from bottom in the League One standings.

Blues sit 12th, despite their own inconsistent form.
